Description

Welding is a process whereby two or more parts are joined together through heat, pressure or both, resulting in a join of the parts as they cool down.

When we refer to welding, it is usually in relations to metals and thermoplastics. However, for this toolbox talk, we will mainly consider the ones used for metal.

The four main types of welding are:

  • MIG: Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
  • TIG: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
  • Stick: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • Flux-cored: Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW).

When using processes emitting hazardous sources of bright light such as welding, they are obligated to ensure the eyes and skin of their workers are protected in line with the regulation The Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010.

Our welding safety toolbox talk helps keep employees safe and reduce health and safety issues in workplaces where welding is carried out as part of the daily work.
